My Celtic Tree Series began unconsciously, and quite accidentally when I was literally stopped in my tracks by this ancient Yew that became number One. Then, the memory of the Hawthorn at Saint Ciarn's Well at Clonmacnoise in County Offaly stirred me into producing number Two, and now I'm hooked. Oak ["Guardian Spirit"] is number Three, and Gort [Ivy] is number Four in the painting called "Where Spirits Dwell".

It is most appropriate to honor the Spirits of Trees as their names were the basis of the ancient Ogham alphabet, i.e. Oak - Duir - Letter D Additionally, there are many mystical, medicinal, and symbolic associations connected to each tree, and I do not profess to know them all; rather, my aim is simply to paint, and in doing so, share a bit of my reverence of trees with you.
